Melton’s multiple world Thai boxing champion Iman Barlow will be attempting to make history once more this weekend when she makes her debut in the United States.

The Muay Thai Assassin crosses the Atlantic to try and win her 12th world title against Spanish fighter Lara Fernandez tomorrow (Friday).

The Lion Fight title bout takes place at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, in Connecticut, and is being televised live on AXS TV Fights.

Iman will be one of the headline bouts on a bill featuring four world title showdowns, and if successful she will become the first British fighter to win a Lion Fight title.

Fernandez has more than 40 bouts on her CV, but believes this is the biggest clash of her career.

“Iman is very strong and experienced, but nobody is invincible in our world,” she said. “My plan is to fight like I never have before.

“This is a big honour for me because Iman is the best female fighter in the world.”

The clash with Fernandez is the first of a four-fight deal the 23-year-old signed with American promoters Lion Fight in June.

Iman’s dad and trainer Mark Barlow told the Melton Times: “Iman is on form and can’t wait to fight in the USA.

“We have a lot of press commitments when we get there, but I will not let this get in the way of her training for this mega bout.”
