Melton RFC Seconds too strong for Belgrave

The first of their eight tries in a free-flowing game came from a lineout catch and drive which allowed Richard Meakin to go over in the corner.

Belgrave hit straight back and went ahead through a converted try.

The setback shook Melton who worked hard for the next 10 minutes to regain control.

They were duly rewarded when the ball was moved wide following Hatfield’s strong run and winger Forfar got the try which gave Melton a lead they would not surrender.

Strong runs by Stapleton, Prior and David Meakin put Melton back in Belgrave’s 22 before a Farish cut back saw him bundle two defenders over as he scored a try which he would convert for a 17-7 lead.

Melton were on top with Haywood and McGee tackling and keeping the pressure on, while Broughton was in support at the rucks and mauls, giving some go forward when it was needed.

Bowles was unlucky not to score after several strong runs, but Barton took his chance, running a great line to touch down under the posts.

Hatfield, building on his last performance, came into the line at pace and almost burst clear.

Evans appeared from the bench just after half-time and supported a couple of breaks. Meakin and the returning Stapleton both crossed

Rudkin made a couple of good runs on the wing to build his confidence and is gaining in confidence, and following a short range try from the skipper, Blagburn was put into space to accelerate away for a final try to make the score 42-7, although there was a strong case for jug avoidance when Rich Meakin passed up a chance to complete his hat-trick, slowing down with the try line beckoning to wait for support.
