Melton Pool League: The Stute take over top spot after eighth straight win

The Welby hammered Division One relegation strugglers Boys and Their Toys, who were a man short, 8-1 in the Melton Winter Pool League.

Timmy’s Stick managed to get on the right end of a 7-2, as Swanderers were beaten, while the Royal Duke handed Armee Pere their third loss in a row, edging past them 5-4.

The Stute, however, made it eight straight wins as they defeated Noels BBs 5-4 to leapfrog MSC A at the top.

Ben Manship’s eight-ball clearance wasn’t enough to stop the Fulderiks losing 5-4 to the Cherry Tree, and The Conkerers breathed a sigh of relief as they climbed out of the relegation zone thanks to a narrow 5-4 win against the Thunders 5-4 in the Hamilton Tennis Club derby match.

* In Division Two, the Phoenix Knights thumped bottom team Notorious TIB 7-2 in another all-Hamilton affair.

The Polish Club keep themselves in the running for promotion after defeating Royally Screwed 6-3, and The Saddle kept their heads well above the relegation zone with a 6-3 win over MSC Elite.

The Legion B recorded their first win in a month as they beat Ingall’s Idiots 5-4, and Janet Noels Best undermined the title ambitions of second-placed You Shall Not Pot after a very close 5-4 match.

Leaders Harboro Cadabra were unable to capitalise on the slip, however, as they were edged out 5-4 by Pop Ya Cherry for only their fourth loss of the season.

* In Division Three, the Con Merchants scored their second successive 8-1 victory, Crazy Gang the victims this time around.

Top of the League managed to get their first win in six weeks as they thrashed Our Drinking Team Has a Pool Problem 7-2, and Poolaholics are knocking on the door of the top four as they beat BD 6-3.

Just the Tip raced away to an early and commanding win as they brushed aside Half Cut 6-3, and third-placed Bears on Powder knocked league leaders Genny Jokers for six as they slowed the top team down, beating them 6-3.

Cue Up, meanwhile, kept up their dogged pursuit of the promotion places as they ran out 5-4 winners over Burton Street Preachers.
