Melton Pool League - Cherry’s prompotion bid set to bear fruit

POP Ya Cherry remained right on course to return to the top flight of Melton Summer Pool League as they preserved their unbeaten record in Division Two.

Malc Farrow and Matt Frier steered them to a 6-3 win against Timmy’s Stick, but The Welby are hot on their heels after Dave Hill’s decider gave them a 5-4 win at Batty Swans. Two Polish Cons and the Swanderers are also close by as Paul Jepson and Adam O’Sullivan bagged trebles to beat 1 Moon 2 Cheeks 7-2.

Dave Cousens and Mark Wardle also won all three to beat Gang Crazy 7-2, and Paul Bryan won the last-frame decider in Spartacus’ 5-4 win over Eaton YM.

* In Division Three, Phoenix Knights ended the Saddle’s 100 per cent record with Rich Mitchell’s deciding frame win capping his treble in a 5-4 win.

Les Durrance’s treble helped Legion Flyers beat Good Drills 6-3, but Dan Horton’s hat-trick couldn’t prevent Oliver’s Army losing 5-4 to the Young Guns. Adam Wyles starred for Boys and Their Toys who won 6-3 at Notorious TIB, and Twig was last frame hero for Fubar as they beat the Con Merchants 5-4.

* In Division Four, Alcoholics Swanonymous went top thanks mainly to Simon Peters’ efforts as Burton St Preachers were beaten 6-3.

Mark Roythorne was man-of-the-match for MSC Elite as they beat Ingall’s Idiots 7-2, and Louis Morgan was another to cap his treble with a deciding frame win as I Smell A Re-rack shaded the Little Destroying Machines 5-4.

The Crown ended the Pool Boyz winning start as Matt Wade and Tom Kirkpatrick inspired a 7-2 success, but Half Cut enjoyed the week’s biggest win as Alun Davis and Sam Pickup both won all three to help beat SSJC 8-1.

* Armee Pere stayed unbeaten at the top of Division Five after Lee Powell’s heroics defeated the Stute 5-4.

Rod Cox was the hat-trick hero for Rod’s Reformed Soldiers as they beat the Royal Stroke 7-2, and Ralph Earnshaw’s treble was capped with the decider to give 18 Main Win St a 5-4 win over the Genny Jokers.

Brian Kettell’s hat-trick allowed Kev Thorpe to win the final frame in the Legionnaires’ 5-4 win over Touching Cloth, while the Four and A Half Amigos edged Legion Boot Boys 5-4.

* Back in Division One, Martin McQuade’s treble was to no avail as Tom Loomes won the decider in the Mighty Morphin Flower Arrangers’ 5-4 victory over We Don’t Play There Anymore.

Tom Corr was star man in Red Hot Chilli Potters’ 7-2 victory at Alpha Cue, and Darren Smith completed the Fulderiks comeback from 4-2 down to beat the Duke 5-4. Neil Ainge’s treble couldn’t prevent the Thunders losing 5-4 to the Noels BBs.
