It will be a happy new year for 48 Melton Jujitsu students who graded to their next belt at Jubilee Sports.

Parents, partners and family members watched a display of controlled defences, and grading officers Shihan Craig Connell and Sensei Sam Butterworth and Sensei Paul Taylor, from Oldham, pushed them all hard.

Many gained merit and honour awards which rewarded their ability to carry out the moves to a high standard of knowledge and technical ability.

Six students were rewarded for four years of training by passing their black belt, including four members of the same family: Amy, Luke, Stan and Tanya Artingstall.

Club instructors Sensei Antony Howell and Sensei Steve Parkin congratulated them all for their hard work, focus and commitment to this self defence art.

The club is open to students from age three upwards and everyone wishing to improve confidence and fitness as well as enjoying the social aspects. Visit or for details.
