Colin, a member of Melton and District Indoor Bowls Club, has been in and out of local hospitals, but has found the sport a huge motivation.

Starting as an outside bowler, Colin then joined Melton’s indoor club and believes the sport and the members added purpose to his and his partner Sandra’s lives.

Proving to be a useful and competitive bowler he developed from social bowls into competitions and joined league teams.

This eventually led him to discover Disability Bowls England (DBE), a body set up in 2004, to encourage disabled people into the game.

DBE invited him to play in the National Pairs at Solihull, in January, where he partnered Chris Richards (Warwickshire) to the semi-finals of the plate competition.

There they went out to the eventual champions on an extra end after tying the matches 10–10.

Since then he has played for the DBE and contributed to their on-going success.

Colin’s next challenge is at this weekend’s Ann Trotman Memorial Singles at Gedling Indoor Bowls Club, in Nottingham, having recovered from yet another operation to take his place.
