Melton bowlers serve up close novice finals

Melton Mowbray and District Indoor Bowls Club held their Summer 2018 Novice Finals with many of this year's entrants having only taken up the sport in the last 12 months.

All of the winners will be ineligible for the next round of novice categories and will have to try their luck in the main competitions.

Men’s Singles: David Pick 21-9 Brian Mitchell. Men’s Pairs: Richard Muddimer/David Armstrong 20-13 Mark Wade/Matt Smith. Ladies’ Singles: Vanessa Watling 21-18 Joan Shields. Ladies’ Pairs: Julie Kipling/Cheryl Rawle 25-19 Yvonne Kent/Pat Wright (club president). Mixed Pairs: Ann Nicholls/Richard Nicholls 22-19 Grace Wade/Mark Wade. Open Triples: Matt Smith/Mark Wade/Grace Wade 22-15 Jack Warner/Julie Kipling/Peter Kipling.

* The club holds four two-hour bowls taster sessions which are open to allcomers every week.
