Gillett faces world number one Nicky Brett in the last 16 of the world indoor singles championships at Potters Resort, in Norfolk. The match is due on this afternoon.

The world number 15 came through a tricky opening round on Sunday when he overcame fellow Englishman Jason Parkinson on a tie-break.

Gillett started quickly, racing into an 8-0 lead on the way to taking the first set 10-5, but Parkinson found his range in the next set and took it 7-4.

Both players shared the first two ends of the tie-break, but the 45-year-old sent down a perfect last delivery to take the tie-break 2-1.

Gillett, who rejoined Melton IBC in 2015, was a world singles semi-finalist in 2000 and reached the quarter-finals the following year.
