After recent losses, Melton needed to return to winning ways in Division Three as they hosted Syston Town Second XI at the All England Ground.
Melton were without three of their regular players, but showed their depth with a comfortable 68-run win.
The home side lost the toss and were put into bat. One wicket went early, but opener Pete Humphreys (89 not out) and Ben Redwood (72) guided the Melton innings through to the 41st over, amassing a 163-run second wicket partnership.
Don Kretschmer came in at five and thumped a quickfire 20, including the biggest six of the season which cleared the brook and trees which run down the eastern side of the ground.
Melton finished on 198-4.
Syston’s reply never really got going after tea as wickets fell frequently with plenty of good bowling to back up the opening pair of Ben Redwood and Paul Stevenson.
Wickets were shared around and Syston finished some way short, bowled out for 130 in the 31st over.
On Saturday, Melton are away to Houghton and Thurnby Seconds.
Melton: G. Potter 6, P. Humphreys 89*, B. Redwood 72, L. Freer 2, D. Kretschmer 20, Extras 9. Total: 198-4.
