With 13 anglers fishing the canal pool, expectations for good weights were high at Lakeview Vets match last Wednesday.
Roger Holmes (Notts AA) was into the fish straightaway, using his favoured method of pellet fished shallow down the track on peg 17 to break the ton barrier with 129lb.
Opposite him on pegs 14 and 12 there was another close-run battle between Martin Quilter and Ian Donaldson. Ian had built up a good weight at the start of the match leaving Martin trailing behind, but the latter got the fish feeding well on maggot down the margins.
And with a late run of fish, Martin brought 97lb to the scales to take second place by just 3lb from Ian. The other section winner was John Cooke on peg 22 with 65lb who pipped Roy Toulson by an ounce.
* There were good weights all round for those that fished Saturday’s match on Serpent, and there was little to choose between the top seven.
Roger Peat lead the way with a 91lb net from peg 25 which had not produced recently. He fished maggot down the margins, but was only 3lb ahead of Roy Toulson who fished maggot across on peg 17.
Roger Holmes came in third with 84lb closely followed by three anglers with 70lb-plus bags.
