Ken takes fourth win at Lakeview Fishery

SENSAS team angler Ken Daws took his fourth win at Lakeview Fishery in the Sunday open match, writes Bren Southgate.

A total of 23 anglers fished the marina and serpent pools with Ken taking 102lb from peg 21 on the serpent. Luke Bamford (Baitech-Middy) was second from the serpent peg two with 94lb 9oz, with third-placed Chris Neal (Rutlanders) fishing paste to take 86lb 15oz from serpent peg five, and Bob Greenburn (Sensas) fourth with 64lb 2oz from serpent peg seven.

l The veterans’ Wednesday match was on the canal pool where Martin Quilter (LV Select) won from peg 25 with 87lb 12oz.

John Cooke (LV Select) had 72lb 12oz for second from peg 27, and Chris Shore (LV Select) was third from peg 14 with 68lb.

On Saturday, the veterans used the serpent pool and Keith Daws (LV Select) was the winner with 70lb from peg eight.

John Cooke and Chris Shore were again second and third respectively, John landing 64lb 1oz from peg 23, and Chris 56lb 8oz from peg 19.

l Holwell Angling Club’s Wednesday evening match at the reservoir produced some good weights with Paul Turner winning from peg 20 with 41lb 4oz of carp.

Runner-up Tony Webb took carp and two barbel for 38lb 3oz from peg 28A, while Ian Brown was third from peg 23 with 32lb of carp, and Derek Jones came fourth from peg 38 with 22lb 5oz.

Holwell AC fish against Barnstone AC at the reservoir on Sunday. Places must be booked through Paul Turner on (01664) 812723.

l Celtic Lakes, Frisby, hosted an open match on the main lake where 22 anglers competed.

Fishing was slower than normal because the bream were occupied with spawning, but Mick Davis won with 20lb 12oz.

Mick West was runner-up with 18lb 4oz, while Rob Fryer took third place with 17lb 8oz. Shaun Stokes took 17lb 7oz, Nigel Truman 11lb 10oz and Dave Petch 9lb 6oz.

l Over the week fishing has improved at Celtic Lakes. Mick Davis took a bream catch of 57lb using pellet method in front of the clubhouse, while Carl Morrison used the same tactics for a bag of bream and tench for 45lb.

Gary Travers took a common carp of 24lb from peg 52, and Mark Hopkins caught a 19lb 4oz common from peg one.

The week’s best tench of 7lb was landed by Mark Holywell who also took seven more fish to 5lb from the boy’s pit.

l The weather conditions weren’t ideal, but the water at Pitsford remains clear with fish caught across the whole lake for a healthy 4.6 rod average.

The week’s best fish was taken by Ray Linette, a fine 10lb 12oz rainbow which fell to a mallard and claret on floating line from the pines.

John French took several good quality fish from, the Gorse Bank, fishing buzzers under an indicator. Mick O’Farrell reported 16 to 18 fish drifting across the narrows with wet fly patterns.

l Ravensthorpe continues to fish well with the week’s best fish falling to Mr Dixon, a superb 11lb rainbow fishing from he dam wall using a floating line and lure.

Boat anglers continued to enjoy very good sport, Mick Griffin catching 14 fish in the weed on various patterns. Doug Whibley managed six fish on wets, while Mr Sells landed some superb rainbows of 4lb to 5lb using a floating line with buzzer and diawl bachs,

Rod average was 4.3.

l Despite unsettled June weather, many areas of Rutland Water are fishing well with more fish seen on the surface. Most areas have been producing fish with the bottom of the north arm proving the least popular.

The week’s best fish, a 6lb 2oz rainbow, was taken by B. Williams, while M. Idle took a 5lb 6oz rainbow. The week’s best brown was a splendid 6lb 1.75oz fish taken by M. Peppitt to a hare’s ear nymph off the bank down the south arm.

l Unsettled conditions have made the fishing challenging at Grafham Water.

Boat anglers have enjoyed good sport, mainly along the north shore when wind has permitted. Bank anglers found conditions challenging, but the bowl and south dam have begun to produce good fishing.

The week’s best fish were two 5lb rainbows taken by Alan Hine and R. Sherriff. Rod average was 2.71.
