Egerton Park took the lion’s share of the points from a rain-affected game at Syston Town Seconds on Saturday.
After the coin toss, rain delayed the start and reduced the contest to 38 overs per side.
The visitors batted first and after a watchful start which yielded only 19 runs off the first 11 overs for the loss of Tyler, Park’s innings began to gather momentum.
Zaheer Hussain (89) and Tom Glover (77) put on 130 for the third wicket in just over an hour. Hussain’s 89 came off 86 balls, including two sixes and 10 fours, while Glover’s 58-ball 77 featured a six and nine fours.
After a second brief rain break, Madden returned to the crease to ensure Park passed the 200 mark and secure maximum batting points before the heavens opened again and brought the innings to a premature end. The visitors closed on 202-4 off 34.4 overs.
After tea, the match was delayed further by another shower, leaving Syston chasing 203 for victory or 158 for a winning draw off their allotted 27 overs.
The hosts began positively, but were always struggling to keep up with the required run rate of almost six per over.
Park picked up four wickets as Syston just managed to earn a bonus batting point, reaching 100 with the penultimate ball of their innings.
Josh Blunt returned the best figures for Park with 2 for 13 from his six overs.
