Waltham rider Lizzie Harris will compete at the Horse of the Year Show after qualifying for the SEIB Racehorse to Riding Horse Championship finals.

Lizzie and her former racehorse Wild West made it through a qualifier held in the main arena at the world-famous Burghley Horse Trials earlier this month.

During his racing career, Wild West was stabled with leading National Hunt trainer Jonjo O’Neil, in Gloucestershire, and was given to Lizzie two years ago upon his retirement.

The pair have had great success in both the show ring as well as in team chasing and hunting.

Earlier this season, Wild West and Lizzie won the very competitive Racehorse Supreme Championship at Hickstead Showground, in Sussex.

Lizzie also trains point-to-pointers with her partner Tom Morgan at their Waltham base and celebrated a string of winners last season.

She said: “Wild West has a home for life here. He does everything and is a very special horse.

“We hunt with the Belvoir and he will go and do a novice team chase before the Horse of the Year Show.

“We use him as a lead horse when we are schooling the point-to-pointers as well.”

* The Horse of The Year Show takes place from October 7 to 11 at the Birmingham NEC.
