Hamilton Tennis Club ladies off the mark

On the league scene, Hamilton Tennis Club’s ladies’ first team notched up their first win of the season.

The pairs of Margaret Heggs and Margaret Shufflebotham, and Sue Corfield with Margaret Roskell both won two sets, while Cindy Coulter and Lesley Greaves won another as they edged past Carisbrooke B 5-4 on one of the hottest evenings of the year.

* The ladies’ third team of Jan Jackson, Wendy Farnsworth, Nicky Herbert, Linda Hallam, Christine Stanley and Suzan Li lost 7-2 to Loughborough.

Jan and Wendy, and Nicky with Linda won one set each.

The ladies’ second team of Margaret Roskell, Polly Dolby, Eileen Merrison, Jessi Jackson, Davina Adams and Pat Woolston lost 9-0 to Leicestershire D.

* There was a 7-2 defeat for the men’s first team of Finlay Glidden, James Carlton, Ben Sansom, Mike Crane, Joe Jackson and Andy Douglas against Rothley.

Finlay and James won the consolation sets.

The men’s second team of Jimmi Cox, Ben Catlin, Mike Crane, Andy Stevens, Joe Jackson, Andy Douglas also lost out, 6-3, to Market Bosworth.

Jimmi and Ben won two sets, while Mike and Andy Stevens won another, but two losing tie-breaks swung the match away from Hamilton.

Birstall Watermead Seconds defeated Hamilton’s third team of Nigel Crymble, Craig Tracey, Graham Hall, Tim Port, Will Harrison and Doug Hacking 7-2.

There was one set each for Nigel and Craig, and Graham with Tim.

The men’s fourth team of James Greenberry, Steve Plaistow, Barrie Farnsworth, Dan Belcher, Joe Cunningham and Keith Galloway lost 9-0 to Loughborough Greenfields Seconds.
