Hamilton Tennis Club: Ladies fight back to pip Charnwood

Hamilton Tennis Club’s ladies’ first team shaded a very close match with Charnwood 5-4.

Di Burdett and Charlie Griffin led the team with maximum three sets, including a tie-break in the last round to clinch a victory which had seemed unlikely after the first round.

Laura Morley and Amelia Coltman won one set and lost a tie-break, while Georgie Ashmore and Sibella Chew won a set in the last round.

* The men’s third team beat Kegworth Firsts 7-2.

Andy Douglas, making a welcome return to team tennis, won a maximum three sets with Joe Jackson, while Doug Hacking and Jon Hacking, and Andy Stevens with Jimmi Cox won two each.

* The men’s fourth team lost 6-3 to Lutterworth Seconds despite several close sets.

* The men’s second team were without a few regulars and lost 8-1 to a very strong Charnwood second team.

Justin Horobin and Jimmi Cox won the consolation set, while the other two pairs both lost a tie-break.

* The ladies’ second team lost 9-0 to Lutterworth Firsts and were unable to get a consolation win despite some close sets.

* The ladies’ third team lost 9-0 to Leicestershire C.
