Four pairs took part in the men’s doubles contest where Doug Hacking and Jeremy Siddall were top after the group stage with straight wins.

The battle for second spot, and a place in the final, saw Steve Plaistow and Joe Cunningham fall behind against Stuart Posnett and John Coleman, but Steve and Joe eventually came though to win 6-4.

In the final, Doug and Jeremy took control from the start, proving too strong for Steve and Joe to win 6-1, 6-1.

Strong winds caused havoc in the ladies’ veterans contest which produced some very close results.

Margaret Heggs and Polly Dolby topped the group stage with five out of six wins.

In the final they will face Eileen Merrison and Carolyn Siddall who tied for second place with Margaret Shufflebotham and Sue Harrison, but had the better games tally.

Eight pairs entered the mixed veterans competition which served up some long and nail-biting sets.

The group stage saw four pairs eliminated, and in the semi-finals Graham Hall and Nicky Herbert beat Doug Hacking and Margaret Roskell 6-2, while Margaret and Edwin Shufflebotham beat Margaret Heggs and Keith Galloway 6-1.

The ladies’ and mixed finals will be played at a later date.
