There were solid wins for Packa Risi and Chris Hatch (5 and 3), and John Tague and Colin Sherriff (6 and 4).

Richard Farnesworth and Alan Grumitt went one better at 7 and 6, but their opponent Radleigh Wardhaugh was undone by his playing partner failing to arrive and had to play solo.

* The annual Senior Captain’s v Vice-Captain’s match took place on Monday, resulting in a very close 6-5 win for the skipper’s team.

The match result was in the balance until the very last hole of the final match when Neil Bradbury and Peter MacDonald-Pearce halved the 18th to clinch a 1-up win.

Peter (28), who has had an up and down couple of weeks, hit a hot spot in the middle of his round, recording three nett birdies in four holes to turn the match around.

Neil rode his luck when his approach shot on the last hurdled the water, but stuck his third to within 12 inches for the winning half.

* The Ladies’ Past Captains event attracted a strong field and competition was keen.

A great front nine of five-over gross helped earn Angela Wheeler (12) the honours from Jackie Friend who chalked up 31 points.

Susie Ellis, immediate past captain, was third, but let her chance of victory slip when she failed to score on the final hole.
