Seniors pair do their bit for home pride at Melton Mowbray Golf

Mezz Watchorn and Phil Curtis did their bit for home pride when they won the Seniors Summer Open at Melton Mowbray Golf Club.

They triumphed by just one point in an event which saw 148 golfers descend from as far away as Tyneside, Lincoln, Huntingdon, and Northampton to play in the annual event.

The results were 1st: Mezz Watchorn & Phil Curtis 45 points; 2nd: Brian Wray & Charlie Chapman 44 points (Back nine countback); 3rd: Nigel Vernon & David McKain 44 points; 4th: Nick McDonald & Steve Middleton 43 points (Back six countback)l 5th: Mark Lewis & Ken Longbottom 43 points; 6th: Richard Haines & Greg Ewart 42 points; 7th: Paul Blount & Nick Humphries 41 points (Back nine countback).

Martin Wheeler won the U70’s Nearest the Pin competitom with David Bentley winning the Over 70’s.

U70’s Longest Drive went to Peter Poolan, with Brian Cole winning the Over 70s.

The Sprint to Woodhall Spa on Saturday attracted an excellent number of competitors on Saturday and they experinced some extremely hot weather throughout the day.

The course was immaculately manicured and with the greens running true, the outcome was some very good scoring with only three points separating the top ten.
