Clive secures the Senior title at Open Championships

A field of 98 players competed in Stoke Rochford Golf Club’s Seniors Open Championship, on a mostly fine day with the odd little shower.

Darrell Knight took over the organisation of the event at relatively short notice and, with his helpers, created another successful day.

With players from many clubs, Stoke players benefiting from their knowledge of the course dominated the prize list.

Three players scored 40 points and won their respective age groups but Clive Breedon became the overall winner, pipping two previous champions Ernie Armstrong (2006) and John Wright (2009) on countback.

Results: Age 55-65 - 1 Clive Breedon (SRGC) 40pts, and winner of the Ben Tyler Trophy as the best Stoke Rochford player, 2 Peter Sargent (SRGC) 39pts ocb, 3 Kevin Smith (Belton Park) 39pts ocb; Age 66-71 - 1 Ernie Armstrong (SRGC) 40pts, 2 Peter Gill (SRGC) 38pts ocb, 3rd Alan Church (SRGC) 38pts ocb; Age 72+ - 1 John Wright (SRGC) 40pts, 2 Dave Jordan (Longcliffe) 37pts, 3 Graham Manton (SRGC) 36pts ocb.
