Former international cricketer Darren Bicknell has agreed to join us next Thursday for our 2015 Melton Times Sports Awards evening.

The Surrey, Nottinghamshire and England A batsman is the second special guest, after Claire Lomas, to agree to appear at the annual event which takes place in the Melton Market’s banqueting suite.

It will be Darren’s second visit to the presentations, his previous appearance coming in 2009 when he pre-empted England’s Ashes series win over the Australians.

We hope he will be able to offer us some positive predictions on the eve of the next Ashes clash, and will also talk about his valuable work as director of the Belvoir Castle Cricket and Countryside Trust.

Melton Times sports editor Chris Harby said: “We are delighted that Darren has agreed to join us again.

“The work that he does to encourage cricket in the area fits exactly with the ethos of our awards - to help promote sport to as much of our community as possible.”

The winners of our 12 awards will be unveiled on the night, culminating with the two top honours – the Sports Personality and Junior Sports Personality of the Year.

The deadline to vote for these two awards ends tonight – see inside for details.

Tickets are still available to buy for the awards night, priced at £15, until Tuesday. They include a summer buffet.
