Teams wanted for new Leicestershire and Rutland FA midweek league

The Leicestershire and Rutland County FA is to launch a flexible new league next month for footballers who want to keep their weekends free.

The 11-a-side Monday Floodlight League starts in February aimed at those who want to play the full-sided game without committing to a Saturday or Sunday League club.

It will comprise of eight teams with each side playing fortnightly on a Monday evening on a full-size 3G pitch at Aylestone Park FC.

Games will kick off at either 8.05pm or 9.05pm and comprise of two 25-minute halves with rolling substitutes.

Players should be 16 or above with no limit placed on squad size.

Results and fixtures will be available to view online at the FA’s Full Time website, along with player registrations.

The format is beign launched after a successful trial last year.

Leicestershire and Rutland County FA football development officer, Fay Longdon, said: “We understand work and family commitments can prevent football from being played over weekends, so by making games flexible and held on a Monday evening within excellent facilities, more people can get back involved in the game in its full form.

“Other county FAs have run similar leagues in their respective counties with huge success and we’re confident it will be well received in Leicestershire.”

Registration will also require an £18 deposit with £35 (£3 per player if teams have 11 plus a substitute) to be paid per-fixture.
