Having added some new players over the summer, the new-look team gelled well, with Hill creating several chances from the flanks, but the crosses just evaded Rowe and Simpson.

The midfield of Deacon, Swann and Fox snuffed out any danger, leaving the defence of Halliday, Atton, Eldred and Brown little to do, but when called into action dealt with any threat well, with keeper Cook backing them up.

West, Dolby and Mee replaced Deacon, Hill and Simpson to freshen things up, and Asfordby got closer with Fox playing a good one-two with Dolby, but firing over.

The Poachers were giving their all, so more changes were made to supply fresh legs with Smith, Ball and Ridge on for Rowe, Brown and Swann.

For the second half, Hill and Simpson returned for Dolby and Mee and straight from kick-off they were in the thick of the action.

Hill switched play to Fox who crossed for Simpson to smash home from the edge of the box for 1-0.

Poachers made their final changes for the final 15 minutes with Smith and West off for Rowe and Deacon.

Desford sprung away on the break after stopping Eldred’s solo run, but Deacon stepped in, won the ball back and sent Hill through.

The forward used his pace to go one-on-one with the keeper before calmly slotting home to make it 2-0.

The defence of Ball, Eldred, Atton and Halliday came under pressure, with Desford pulling one back, but Poachers held on for the win.
