Melton’s Senior League title hopes were rescued by goals from Aidan Black and Ash Palfreyman in each half as Saturday’s match ended in dramatic fashion.
The home side started in lively fashion and dominated the opening 10 minutes.
Gav Williamson should have opened the scoring, but blasted over from three yards when it seemed harder to miss the target.
Melton continued to press, but Allexton were dangerous on the counter-attack and their persistence paid off with the opening goal.
Leon Fray was caught in possession as he tried to play out of defence and Richard Cragg was powerless to prevent Pallet from giving the visitors a shock lead.
Mowbray finally made the breakthrough just before half-time when Jack Baker played in Aidan Black on the right whose awesome shot from 16 yards flew into the net.
Melton then took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Palfreyman ghosted in unmarked from a corner and hit a tremendous volley which almost broke the net.
The home side continued to huff and puff in the second half in one of their worst displays of the season.
The task looked to have been made easier when Allexton had a player sent off followed by their manager for dissent to the referee.
But Allexton were not done and on 90 minutes they bundled the ball into the net after a mass scramble from a corner.
Melton’s response was immediate, and from the restart forced a corner of their own.
Palfreyman was on hand to score with a great header and restore the lead.
In the final moments of added time, Aidan Black finally wrapped up the win with his 19th goal of the season, finishing neatly when sent through one-on-one with the keeper.
Man-of-the-match, sponsored by Williamson Air Conditioning, was Aidan Black.
