Senior League: Lane egde past Asfordby FC as Wymeswold hit the top

Asfordby FC were left waiting for their first league win as they were edged out in a high-scoring match at home to Friar Lane and Epworth on Saturday.

Stan Logan cancelled out Friar Lane’s ninth-minute opener, but the visitors went back in front after 28 minutes when Jason Alexander-Lee snapped up his second.

Asfordby turned the game on its head after the break with Luke Peberdy equalising a minute into the secnd half, and Leighton Nicholson putting the hosts ahead in the 50th minute.

But Terrence Payarira equalised just three minutes later and Alexander-Lee completed his hat-trick on the hour to put Lane back in front.

The visitors added a fifth to leave Asfordby second-bottom of the Senior League Premier with one point from seven matches.

Wymeswold kept their flying start going in Division One with an impressive win at Loughborough FC.

The two teams started the day level on points, but Jack Griffin and Brandon Hands put the visitors 2-0 up inside 20 minutes and they didn’t look back.

Adam Brind made it 3-0 midway through the second half and substitute Joshua Barr completed a 4-0 win with 10 minutes left.

The win sent unbeaten Wymeswold three points clear at the top with 13 points from a possible 15.
