And fans took to the streets of Melton last night to celebrate the most unlikely of triumphs in sporting history!

The focus of the party was around star striker Jamie Vardy’s Melton home where the Leicester players had gathered to watch the Tottenham vs Chelsea match. No doubt there were a few champagne corks popped behind closed doors there after the 2-2 draw handed Leicester the title.

But the main party was out in the streets of Melton where more than 1,000 of people celebrated, chanted and sang with cheer delight and a little bit of disbelief.

One excited partygoer said: “The atmosphere was amazing, everyone was singing and dancing. Lots of people were wearing Leicester City shirts and carrying flags.

“It was managed really well by police. Although there was a presence, the officers just stepped back and let everyone have a good time.

“Everyone was saying they just couldn’t believe that Leicester were the champions. There was a real sense of achievement - even more so when Jamie Vardy’s girlfriend waved out of the window!”
