Friday night football could become a new feature of the weekend as Melton Town try a new take on the fixture list this weekend.

Their home game with Bugbrooke St Michaels has been brought forward from Saturday afternoon to Friday evening with a 7.45pm kick-off.

The fixture shift was the idea of manager Tom Manship as a way of encouraging new supporters along, as well as helping out the players.

“We thought it would be good for the town to have a bit of entertainment on a Friday evening,” he said.

“A lot of people want to go to see Leicester City on a Saturday, understandably, so this way they can go to both.

“It will also allow the players to spend the bank holiday weekend with their families.”

The club have so far no other fixtures scheduled for Friday evenings, but Manship said more could follow.

“I asked the chairman to ask the league about changing it this weekend and they agreed to help,” he added.

“It’s a different idea and we thought we would try it.”
