Melton RFC Under 7s on song at Stamford

Melton RFC's Under 7s squad were ready to go bright and early for their three matches at Stamford on Sunday.

It was a well-attended event as Melton fielded three teams to play sides from Stamford and Wisbech.

The girls’ team was depleted by illness so Harris stepped up to be captain, the only boy among the girls.

He did a fine job, showing maturity beyond his years, and the pay-off was a well-deserved win by eight tries to three in the opening match. Baxter and Beech were also a great combination and Sharp provided tight support.

Clemons was a stand-out player for the second of the three teams, and in the third team, Gormley was on fine form as usual, bravely shrugging off a knock to the arm to cut holes through the opposition’s defence.

The players were on top form and are looking forward to their derby meeting with local rivals Syston on Sunday.
