Under 14s County Cup Round One

MELTON cruised into the next round after overpowering fourth division Whetstone.

After several close calls, Foxes broke through after seven minutes when Harrison Mayes cut in from the left and fired home a low shot. Seconds later Alex Walker’s fierce drive just cleared the crossbar before winger Kenny Jones’ dazzling run down the right set up Jake Cox who shot wide.

But Cameron Ainge struck twice in a minute, finishing well after latching onto two through balls.

On 20 minutes, Ainge’s goalbound shot was blocked by the keeper, but Jake Cox converted the loose ball for 4-0, and just before half-time Ainge completed his hat-trick with a low drive past the keeper.

Soon after the restart Moyes volleyed in from Ainge’s superb cross, and full-back Chris Lovegrove’s terrific 20-yard shot forced a full-stretch diving save.

Captain Alex Horobin’s fierce shot from the edge of the box crashed against the post, but Jake Mogg got on the scoresheet with a low drive from just inside the area.

Mayes capped his hat-trick from close range, and George Wilkinson got in on the act with 10 minutes left, finishing after good work on the right by Cox.

With two minutes left, Wilkinson notched his second and Foxes’ 10th, latching onto Ainge’s pass to cut in from the left and score.
