Asfordby FC kept pace with the top three in the Leics Senior League Division One with a comfortable home win over Anstey Town on Saturday.
Fourth-placed Asfordby did most of the hard work in the first half at Hoby Road and raced into a 3-0 lead at half-time thanks to goals from Junior Gaskin, Stan Logan and Leighton Nicholson.
Ritchie Parker replied for the visitors after the break, but Jon Allsop’s side held out to record their sixth win in eight matches.
The victory left them just six points behind leaders Rugby Borough with a game in hand.
On Saturday, they face a tricky trip to Barrow Town Reserves with just a place and three points separating the sides (kick-off 3pm).
But there was no happy homecoming for Holwell Sports Development Squad who were well beaten, 6-0, by County Hall at Welby Road last weekend.
After a goalless opening half-hour, Oscar Webb put the visitors ahead.
County Hall then struck twice in five minutes before the break through Scott Machin and Samuel Collins.
Machin struck again 10 minutes into the second half, and Webb made it five on the hour before Machin completed his hat-trick.
Holwell lie 13th, and on Saturday travel to third-placed Thurnby Rangers who are unbeaten and averaging more than seven goals per game (kick-off 3pm).
