The Foxes were looking to avenge a 4-1 defeat as they made their midweek visit to Nirvana.

The hosts had other ideas and took an early lead after just five minutes. Alex Walker was felled just outside the Foxes area, but the referee waved play-on, allowing Nirvana a free run through on goal to fire past Thorn.

Two minutes later skipper Joe Nickolls’ header to Thorn fell short and the Leicester striker nipped in and flicked in a second.

Melton hit back immediately when a long ball dropped to Cameron Steans. He laid it back to strike partner Shaun Smith who rocketed a left-foot drive into the net from 18 yards.

Play evened out, but the home side made it 3-1 after 15 minutes when Thorn misjudged another awkward long ball and was lobbed from an acute angle.

Melton stuck to their task and clawed themselves back into the match when winger Harrison Mayes put a long cross in and Smith forced the ball home.

Foxes were enjoying their best spell as they pressured the home side into mistakes. Kenny Jones fed a pass through to Smith who used his strength and perseverance to force in an equaliser from close range.

The home side took the early initiative in the second half, pressing Melton’s defence, but Nickolls and defensive partner George Wilkinson frustrated their attacks.

Nirvana snatched the lead in the 70th minute when a clearance was pounced on and driven in from the edge of the area. Two minutes later a defensive mix-up allowed a low cross to be turned in from close range.

With five minutes left, Nirvana notched a sixth when the home captain superbly flicked the ball over Nickolls and Wilkinson before volleying past Thorn.
