The match was a dour affair, hampered by strong winds and a bobbly pitch, with both sides serving up plenty of industry without creating many clear openings.

After enduring one of their worst runs in recent history, Holwell have now lost just four times in their last 12 East Midlands Counties League outings and lie 16th.

Simon Daws’ men were good value for their point as they kept only their second clean sheet of the season in the league, and the first since the 2-0 win over Anstey Nomads back in August.

The draw ended a four-match winning streak for Radcliffe who sit ninth in the table.

But with just three points separating them and the three teams above, Holwell will be optimistic of further progress up the table.

* Storm Katie put paid to Holwell’s bank holiday derby with Barrow Town on Monday as heavy rain wiped out all but two of the league programme.

The match has been re-arranged for Tuesday, April 19 (kick-off 7.45pm) at Welby Road.

This Saturday, Holwell entertain mid-table side Graham St Prims. Kick-off 3pm.
