Melton Mowbray moved up to third after a late comeback win at promotion rivals Ingles on Saturday.
Ingles boasted a seven-game unbeaten run based on one of the league’s meanest defences which Melton struggled to break down despite dominating possession.
The hosts threatened on the counter-attack and blasted two shots over before opening the scoring on 23 minutes when a ball into the box found their forward completely unmarked. He headed back across goal for Blackshaw to fire past the helpless Cragg.
Melton responded well as they increased the tempo, Aidan Black hitting the bar after good work from Chiavetta on the left, and Fray heading wide when completely unmarked at the back post.
Foster forced a save from Hazeldine’s good ball as Melton’s desire to win the second ball exerted pressure on the hosts, with Jack Baker and Shannon Myring excellent in central midfield.
Ingles made a change at half-time and started the better, but Cragg still had little to do as Melton’s defence of Chiavetta, Fray, Clayton and Cooper stood firm.
The visitors came to life 10 minutes into the half as they began to bombard the Ingles goal. Hazeldine was inches wide with a free-kick before Aidan Black was played in by Baker and shot narrowly wide when he tried to go around the keeper.
The home keeper then tipped over Hazeldine’s testing shot before the breakthrough finally arrived after 70 minutes.
Hazeldine was picked out on the left and crossed for Foster who headed back across goal where Aidan Black smashed home from six yards.
The visitors pushed on in search of a winner and took the lead with five minutes left through Kieran Foster who smashed an excellent left-footed half-volley from 20 yards into the top corner.
Melton handed a debut to promising young prospect Will Newton for the final five minutes.
Mowbray face another big game on Saturday when they host fourth-placed Blaby and Whetstone Reserves who are unbeaten in 10 games. Kick-off at Asfordby Acres is 2pm.
