After the previous week’s friendly, Asfordby Lions Under 14s were back in league action against a much-improved Quorn team.

The Lions camped in Quorn’s half for the first 10 minutes and went ahead when Azhashemi intercepted a goalkick, jinked his way into the area and side-footed past the keeper.

With Asfordby pressing for a second, Joliffe fed the ball through to Hill who rounded the keeper and slotted in.

The defence of Herod, Wallis, Kelly and Joliffe stood strong when Quorn attacked, and keeper Wade produced a fine save when the defence was breached.

Cook in midfield released a pass to Hill who shot low and beat the keeper for his second of the day.

And moments later Asfordby were awarded a penalty when Hill was fouled in the area. With Hill off the pitch receiving treatment, McCafferty stepped up and coolly scored for a 4-0 half-time lead.

Quorn pulled one back early in the second half to spark an incredible comeback, and as Asfordby lost concentration during an off-field incident, Quorn took advantage to level at 4-4.

Harris went close with a shot, while Saffhill, driving forward, forced the keeper into a string of saves.

Still pressing, Swann controlled the ball and sent a looping shot over the keeper for his first Asfordby goal.

With Gamble entering the fray, Asfordby chased down every ball, and with a few minutes left, McCafferty put Hill through to complete his hat-trick and seal a thrilling 6-4 win.
