After a few weeks off Asfordby FC Poachers Under 14s returned to action against Hamilton, hoping to continue their good start to the season.

From kick-off, Asfordby went on the attack with Hill shooting wide, and the midfield of Swan, Taft, Liddington and Hill controlling the game.

They battled to win the ball at every opportunity, putting through passes to Rowe and Mcdaid who kept going close to a breakthrough.

Hamilton started to attack Asfordby’s goal, but the defence of Brown, Eldred, Atton and Ploughman gave them no way through.

But by half-time, Asfordby couldn’t find a way through.

Asfordby made some changes for the second half, with Mcdaid, Liddington and Brown making way for Ball, Dolby and Smith.

Within five minutes Hill sent a through ball for Smith who calmly put it past the keeper to make it 1-0.

On the front foot Asfordby kept the pressure on and Taft doubled their advantage from a Hill corner.

With every second Asfordby grew in confidence and Hill stepped up and put a free-kick into the top corner to make it 3-0.

Brown, Mcdaid and Liddington returned to the fray and Hamilton had a rare attack which Cook was able to gather.

His quick thinking released Atton and he found Taft to beat the keeper for his second and Asfordby’s fourth.
