Asfordby FC Poachers signed off their season with a well-deserved win over Harborough Town at Hoby Road and avenged an agonising 3-2 defeat the last time the teams met.

Hill went close early on with a shot from distance, and the hosts went ahead when Hill gathered the ball and sent it over the defence for Dolby whose shot beat the keeper’s dive.

Good work in midfield from Swann and Smith saw Hill release Rowe to fire into the bottom corner for 2-0.

Home keeper Cook controlled his area well, but Harborough pulled one back before half-time from a long clearance.

Clarke replaced Barnes on the wing for the second half which saw Harborough grow frustrated as Asfordby pushed for another goal, leading to some very tasty tackles.

Hill corner’s found Deacon on the edge of the box and his shot went in off the keeper and post for 3-1.

In the previous fixture against Harborough, Asfordby threw away a 2-0 lead, but this time the whole team stood strong, with Eldred marshalling his defence of Halliday, Atton and Deacon, and Barnes coming back on for Dolby.

Cook made a fantastic save to tip a goalbound shot around the post late on as hard-working Asfordby saw out the win.

New players are welcome to join squad training sessions which take place at Hoby Road on Tuesdays from 6pm to 7pm, and on Saturdays from 11am to noon.
