Asfordby Lions looked to get back to winning ways after the previous weekend’s loss and were soon ahead when McCafferty released Hill down the wing to outrun the defence, cut in and fire past the advancing keeper.
Kelly, Jolliffe and Herod kept Sileby out until keeper Wade was called upon to make a full-length diving save to tip a goalbound shot away.
Hill terrorised Sileby’s defence with constant pressure, as the bar and post came to their rescue. The midfield of Cook, Gamble and Saffhill worked hard and fed the attack of Harris, McCafferty and Ladjimi.
Wade made another stop as the second half began, and Hill seized on Azhashemi’s clearance and set off towards goal. The keeper parried his shot away and the on-rushing Swann poked in the loose ball.
Wallis came on and was soon in the action, chasing down a long ball after good link-up play, and Sileby’s keeper came to the rescue again with a fine save.
The ball broke in midfield to Azhashemi who sent Hill away down the middle to run into the box, round the keeper and roll the ball into the net.
With 10 minutes left Sileby laid siege to Asfordby’s goal, and eventually scored through a congested area.
Sileby scored again, and Asfordby had to soak up further pressure right up to the final whistle, hanging on for a 3-2 win.
Asfordby travel to leaders Loughborough on Sunday, looking to avenge an earlier cup defeat.
