ASFORDBY Amateurs JYFC dominated the under 15s six-a-side tournament at Groby with both teams winning their respective leagues to progress to the semi-finals.

Asfordby Orange took an early lead in their semi against Stoneygate when Knatt turned his defender and drove the ball past the keeper. They held onto this lead until the last few seconds when Stoneygate headed the equaliser to take the tie into penalties.

But Asfordby kept their cool to convert all of their spot kicks and reach the final.

In the other tie, Asfordby Blue dominated possession against Groby, but were held to a hard-fought scoreless draw. As with their Orange counterparts, they saw off their opponents in the penalty shoot-out.

The all-Asfordby final was played in fine spirit with Orange taking an early lead when Knatt, again showing a fine touch in front of goal, steered the ball past La Barbera.

But the lead was short-lived as Burgoyne’s powerful drive beat Hart to level. And moments later Joslin gave the Blues the lead.

In this five-minute purple patch Burgoyne put the result beyond doubt with a replica of his first goal to make the final score 3-1.

Orange: D. Hart, A. Thorn, E. Thompson, H. Newton, W. Knatt, S. Thorpe, D. Sharpley.

Blue: M. La-Barbera, J. Burgoyne, E. Harrison, J. Partridge, T. Rigby, M. Joslin, A. Brown.
