Asfordby Amateurs Girls’ Under 9s played their first game together last weekend in a friendly fixture against Bottesford Girls FC.

The Asfordby girls have only trained together since the summer, but produced a superb debut performance against experienced opponents.

The girls got off to a shaky start, but grew in confidence as the game progressed. D. Oliveira and E. Sutcliffe made some solid challenges in defence, while E. Curtis and C. Harris worked hard in midfield, making darting runs and clever passes and also fighting hard to get back and help Asfordby’s defence.

C. Plimmer and E. Aldrige continued to test the Bottesford keeper throughout with some terrific shots on goal.

Asfordby’s younger players had to wait patiently until the second half to make their debuts, but M. Tinsley, E. Baker, F. Walsh and S. Manship did not let their age deter them from getting stuck in and enjoying themselves.

Praise must also go to Asfordby’s keeper M. Paterson who commanded her goal throughout and made some outstanding saves.

Asfordby Amateurs Girls welcome new players of all ages and abilities. They train from 6pm to 7pm on Wednesdays at Hoby Road.
