The hosts started strongly with Evie McDaid and Erin Baker dictating play, but they struggled to break down the Bottesford defence.

Baker went close as did Hope, Sophie T and Alice, but the visitors’ keeper was in great form.

Numerous crosses from Ruby Attewell and McDaid found their team-mates time after time, but the girls could not find the net in a tens goalless first half.

More of the same followed after half-time, but Bottesford began to find their feet with both Ella Wright and player-of-the-match Lauren Farrow having to be at their best to hold off their very spirited opponents.

Keeper Leah Scallon made some crucial saves to keep Amateurs in the game, and 10 minutes into the half, leading scorer Hope Metcalf made no mistake from an Asfordby break to fire home and make it 1-0.

Amateurs brought on Sophie Varley and Ruby Sarginson who made strong appearances, with Sarginson impressing on the right of midfield with her passing and tackling, and Varley also making some great passes into the strikers.

But with five minutes left, resilient Bottesford equalised with a good goal after a quick counter-attack.

Despite the draw, Asfordby remain top of the league and six points clear of their nearest challengers.

On Sunday they travel to Royce Rangers.
