Barkby’s summer of 2015 was a case of what might have been, and they will be eager to make up for last year’s disappointment.
United looked well-placed for a return to the Premier Division for much of last season until a late slump in their final four matches ruined their chances and left them down in sixth place.
But buoyed by some new signings, Barkby are once again eyeing the top table and will be among the promotion favourites in Division One.
New recruit Rob Townsend, a top order batsman and spin bowler, was plying his trade for Mansfield Hosiery in the Notts Premier League last season, while fellow newcomer Chris Pick, was turning out in the Derbyshire league as a seam bowler with Heanor
On the down side, Jack Berrisford is working abroad and will be unavailable until June, while all-rounder Tom Flowers will only be available during the school holidays.
The team will be mostly made up of the youngsters who have come through the junior ranks at the club, and hopefully with last season’s experience, they will come to the fore.
Barkby’s second team will play in Division Four East, and will be aiming to improve on last season’s mid-table finish.
The third team will be playing in Division 10 East and will host their home matches at Frisby. This team will consist of a mixture of senior and under 15 players.
Barkby’s First XI kick off the season at their Beeby Road ground on Saturday against Leicester Banks. Start 1pm.
