Egerton Park up to joint second in Division Two

Cricket.

Egerton Park moved to joint second in the Leicestershire & Rutland League Division Two as they posted a fifth straight win on Saturday.

The 50-run victory at Newbold Verdon saw them take 25 points, and with two games to go they face a three-way battle with leaders Leicester Invanhoe II and Hinckley Amateur for the title.

They will host mid-table Billesdon on Saturday in another huge game as they continue their push for promotion.

The visitors lost the toss once again and were asked to bat on what looked poor wicket and they got off to a poor start finding themselves at 7-3 having lost most of there top order.

Glover tried to stop the rot but his partners could not manage to stick around for very long until Seecharan made a well-made 31 before both batsmen lost their wicket.

Newman and Barber made a very nice partnership hitting regular boundaries and they were supported late on by King before Park were finally bowled out for 186.

A fired-up Egerton blew away the Newbold top order restricting the home side to 9-4 to take control of the game.

Glover, who finished with 3-31, picked up a wicket with his first ball and Watchorn 3-31 bowling a very good spell.

A couple of big hitters allowed Newbold to reach a respectable 136 but were never in the game after their poor start and an all-round top performance from Park.

Egerton Park CC Seconds bounced back from last week’s look back with a solid performance to beat Queniborough.

Creed struck early with two wickets and when Anderson was replaced by Newton he clean bowled all five of his victims in a fine spell of swing bowling.

At the other end turn and bounce from Wade helped him to three wickets, reducing Queniborough to 137 all out.

Park started the run chase quickly with Pedlar and Anderson taking 15 off the first over.

But with wickets also falling quickly the game looked in the balance until Burdett (69 not out) and Haffenden’s (29) put on 79 to see Park home.

Newton finished with the impressive bowling figures of 8-2-29-5 while Burdett led Egerton with his unbeaten 69.
