Wymeswold won the toss and put Old Dalby in to bat in a game reduced to 36 overs because of showers forecast during the afternoon.

The visitors got off to a slow start and in the fifth over were 11-2, but Rob Herrick (22) held one end up and with David Greaves (18) moved the score on to 43.

Joe Gant (69 not out) and Lee Creedon (38) lifted Dalby’s final score to 168-7 from their allotted overs.

Play resumed after tea, but a short, sharp shower soon brought the players back into the pavilion.

They were soon back out and Dalby’s bowlers set about their task, determined to beat the weather.

Three of Dalby’s five-man attack was under 15 years of age and they all performed very well.

Wickets were taken by Alfie Greaves (3 for 23) and Ben Carr (2 for 17) and they were supported by Gant (2 for 12) and Creedon (1 for 27), enabling Dalby to restrict Wymeswold to 107-9 in their reply.
