South Notts League: Old Dalby cut gap to leaders Belvoir

Old Dalby closed the gap on leaders Belvoir Third Xi with a comprehensive eight-wicket win at Whatton and Aslockton on Saturday.

Ten-man Whatton elected to bat first having won the toss and Dalby’s bowlers set about ensuring they contained their hosts as they targeted full bowling points.

The hosts put up little resistance and after seven overs were four wickets down with only 10 runs on the board.

Dalby took full advantage and bowled out Whatton for 71 in 31 overs.

Bowling: Carrick Fone 4-0-5-3; Alfie Greaves 5-1-7-2; Wilf Conway 7-1-20-2; Lee Creedon 5-2-7-1; Tony Woodcock 6-1-14-1.

After an early tea, opening batsmen Rob Herrick (25) and Tom Driver (29 not out) soon put the finish in sight, and Dalby reached the victory target, only two down, in 15.2 overs.

Dalby stay second, cutting the gap to the top to 18 points.
