Barkby United Second XI pip Queniborough in table-topping derby

Barkby United Second XI took control of Division Four East after a top-of-the-table clash against derby rivals Queniborough on Saturday.

United lost the toss and batted first in hot and humid conditions, and they were soon in trouble at 28-3 as Troop (8), Wood (4) and Louis Botting (13) fell cheaply.

The middle order chipped in with Harby (21), Hollis (27), former Queniborough player Carmichael (25) and Skinner (19) all getting starts.

But the wheels then came off as the hosts collapsed from 146-7 to an under-par 156 all out.

The Barkby bowlers took heart from a tricky wicket with unpredictable bounce, and with opening bowler Louis Botting keeping things tight, first change Phillips immediately broke through with a wicket maiden.

Botting struck in the next over and then took the wicket of the remaining opener Imran (25).

Drake and Dave Botting reduced the run rate and took a wicket apiece before Botting returned to trap the fiery Patel lbw (75-5).

A sixth wicket stand of 39 took Queniborough towards the finishing line, but at 114-5, a return to opener Louis Botting and the introduction of leg spinner Hollis proved key.

Bopara (39) was castled by Botting before Hollis struck twice with catches from Carmichael and Wood.

Botting picked up the final two wickets in the following over to complete his five-wicket haul, as Queniborough lost their last five wickets for two runs, all out for 116.
