He will lead Leicestershire CCC across all three formats, after taking over the white ball duties from Paul Horton halfway through the 2019 season.

Upon becoming the club captain in the pre-season of 2020, Ackermann said: “It is obviously a huge honour and privilege to captain this club.

“Nico [Paul Nixon] approached me a couple of weeks ago and asked me if I wanted to do it, and obviously it was an easy decision for me.

“Paul Horton did a fantastic job over the last two years. He led the team very well, but his job is not finished just yet, I will still lean on him for advice throughout the season as well as Chris Wright and Mark Cosgrove, the other senior players in the team.”

Horton spoke on Ackermann’s captaincy: “It’s been an honour to have captained the side and I have always given the club and my fellow teammates my all.

“I wish Colin all the best in his new role and I will be there to support him as and when he needs me.”

The 28-year old will look to draw on his experiences as white ball captain to take into his red ball leadership despite the increase in responsibilities off the pitch as well as the difference in format.

He said: “It is a bit different being club captain. I think you will face different challenges specifically off the field and managing the club.

“It is very different to just being T20 captain as well. It will be different for me, but I will look to build on the experience I have gained from being T20 captain.”
