The event was started by John Bailey when he was chairman in 1991 and this year it again attracted old friends back from across the country.

Mr Bailey, who helped organise the latest get-together earlier this month, said: “We had 65 there this year and it was another great lunch.

“When I started it all those years ago it was because we were finding that quite a few of the older cricketers just went away and never returned to the club.

“It’s great to see so many old faces and we also invite the wives to come along as well now.”

The dinner was held during the recent Leicestershire and Rutland League fixture against local rivals Oakham.

England fast bowler Stuart Broad, a former player, was unable to attend because he had tickets for the Wimbledon tennis that day.
