Barkby United’s run chase fell short as they took 12 points for a losing draw with Broomleys.

United put the visitors in to bat, and James Kirk struck in the first over when he had Bates caught behind for four with only five runs on the board.

Sharpe and Read then put on 126 for the second wicket before Drake bowled Read for 58.

But spinners Tom Flowers and Rob Townsend stemmed the flow of runs to restrict the visitors to 237-7 despite Sharpe’s unbeaten 114.

Barkby’s innings started badly when both the Flowers brothers were out with only six runs on the board.

Ian Kirk played fluently for 71, a knock which included 14 fours, but when Townsend and Drake were both out, Barkby were in trouble at 65-4.

Matt Harby (47) and Kirk put on 77 for the fifth wicket, but when Kirk was bowled, Barkby’s hopes of victory were reduced.

Simon Lloyd-Phillips played well for his unbeaten 36, but Barkby ended up 30 runs short of victory.
