Brooksby Melton College has been honoured by the Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket Board for their work in helping local clubs.

The college’s carpentry and joinery department were awarded a NatWest CricketForce OSCA (Outstanding Service to Cricket Award) after making equipment for Melton Mowbray CC, Thorpe Arnold CC and Newtown Linford CC.

The awards ceremony featured former England cricketers Angus Fraser and Shaun Udal as guest speakers.

Carpentry and joinery tutor Ian Sargent, and new learning support assistant Joanna Gerrard were invited to represent the college at Athena Theatre, in Leicester.

Ian said: “The evening was wonderful and a great credit to the commitment of Brooksby’s joinery department.”

It was nominated by Melton Mowbray CC for their support in the club’s refurbishment project. The joiners built a variety of items, including scoreboards, doors and benches.

BMC won the OSCA in recognition of the time staff and students gave up to volunteer and their contribution to the game.
