The Melton-based gym has decided to cut one of its three annual shows, meaning that after the February 20 show, Thai boxing will not return to the town until November.

Chief instructor Mark Barlow said: “We won’t have time to organise the second show which is normally held around April or May because of Iman (Barlow)’s commitments to Enfusion.”

The show will feature a performance by in-form Tyree Stevens who has been awarded the Jason Roth Trophy as best Assassin fighter for the last two hometown shows.

Tyree faces current WTKA world champion Adam Penketh from the Majestic Gym in Wigan, a title won at the world championships in Spain last November.

But the Assassin also holds an international belt as a reigning WTKA European champion.

Barlow added: “This should be an excellent bout with both lads having power, speed and great technical ability. Any top show in the country would love to have it.”

Also on the bill at the Market Tavern show is up-and-coming talent Saxon Nugent, a current WTKA European champion who will go up against current Spanish and world WTKA champion Pol Lloret, from Barcelona.

“Pol is an excellent fighter and I want my fighters to take on the best. I think Saxon can win and he is training really hard for the bout.”

Doors open at 5.30pm for a 6pm start, and tickets are on sale from any Assassin member and Nicko’s Fish Bar. Tables are also still available.
