FRIDAY, 11am: The visitors came to avenge the Nomads' away victory earlier in the season, but total commitment and belief by every squad member earned Melton victory.

From kick-off the Stones failed to make 10 metres and Nomads pack put down a marker in the ensuing scrum, winning ball decisively as the half-back pairing of O'Brien and Grant linked well to allow centres Chirico (Jnr) and Berry to run hard at their opponents.

Continued recycling by the pack gave the hosts steady progress until Chirico (Jnr) broke through on the 22, and with a devastating turn of pace, touched down under the posts. Grant's conversion put Melton 7-0 up.

From the restart the visitors responded, but the back three of Postle and Chapman on the wings and Crowe at full-back put in several big tackles and collected long, speculative kicks to run the ball back.

Nomads pack began to dominate with the front row of Hazard, Chirico (Snr) and Cleathero rock-solid and second row thrust from Watts and Gilbert.

Flankers Crane and Lobley were always on top, and skipper Pawley (snr) at number eight was at his destructive best.

All the pressure was on the visitors and near half-time, an attacking scrum on the 22 produced quick ball for Grant who dummied his opposite number and ran in for a 12-0 half-time lead.

To give the whole squad game time, Sault, Jackson, Pawley (Jnr) and Low came into the pack, while Dustan and Evans came on in the backs. A lineout just inside the visitors' 22 brought a superb catch from Lobley before a rolling maul sucked in the defence.

O'Brien shipped the ball out to Grant who fed Chirico (Jnr) to beat the full-back and add his second try.

McCarthy, returning from injury, came on in the front row. The visitors created sustained pressure and finally Melton's defence was breached with a scrappy converted try.
